The rod is a story unlock, not a shop purchase. Finish “Meet the Townsfolk,” then follow the sparkling exclamation marker into the forest above town and meet Noel at the river.

Finish “Meet the Townsfolk”
After the town-introduction quest, open the map and look for a sparkling exclamation point in the forest above town. Enter that area to trigger Noel’s river scene.

Accept the fishing challenge
Noel gives you the basic rod for the contest. Catch three fish, return to him, and complete “Outfish the Fisherman” to keep it.

How to catch the first fish
- Select the rod from the tool wheel.
- Stand by water where a fish silhouette is visible.
- Cast close to the moving fish rather than into empty water.
- Follow the bite prompt and reel without overcorrecting.
- The basic rod handles small fish. The launch version’s rod upgrade is a late jump at Howling Hammer and requires 16,000G plus 3 Gold Bars.

Noel’s lost rod job
After Misty Shores opens, one lost-rod request can place the rod south of the Ambrosia Mansion near the cliff edge. The object may have no sparkle, so walk the edge slowly and scan the ground rather than waiting for a bright marker.
